#BlueStarBrief April 2018

Blue Star Strategies is an international strategic consultancy based in Washington, DC with offices in Europe and Latin America. We work with public and private sector clients to help solve business and policy challenges in the United States and in markets around the world.

Blue Star Strategies joins the world in marking the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of the African-American civil rights movement leader and activist, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 39 years old.

In addition to his campaign of nonviolence for racial equality and economic justice, Dr. King is remembered for leading the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom where he delivered his stirring "I Have a Dream" speech. Make sure to visit the memorial to his honor located on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

We recommend reading this reflective piece (click here) on his legacy.

World Water Day

The world celebrated World Water Day on March 22, a global day focusing attention on the importance of water. The theme this year is ‘Nature for Water’ – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.

Damaged ecosystems impact both the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption. Today, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home, affecting their health, education, and livelihoods. See this factsheet here on how you can help.

More than just a vital resource to sustain daily human life, water can also serve as a means for cooperation and as an instrument of peace. This is the vision taken up by a group of 15 countries known as the Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace. The panel's newest recommendations are outlined in A Matter of Survival: Report of the Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace.

Click here to watch a welcome video from the panel's chairman, former president of Slovenia Dr Danilo Türk, who helps us understand how, "the global water challenge is not only about development and human rights but it is also about peace and security".

Make sure to enjoy après-ski at the Almrausch and the local Styrian cuisine and live music at the Hohenhaus Tenne by the Planai gondola, the largest après-ski venue in Europe.

Lunch and Art Auction in Paris...

Mathilde Defarges recommends...

Caffè Artcurial located inside the Artcurial Auction House Hotel Particulier on the Rond Point des Champs Elysées, around the corner from our Paris offices.

Artcurial was founded in 2002, just at the time the French auction market was opening up to competition, and quickly became the leading French auction house.

Before having lunch at the café (delicious, affordable Italian food), visit the delectable auction rooms and amazing bookstore.

Caffè Artcurial at Artcurial, 7 Rond-Point des Champs-Élysées Marcel-Dassault, 75008 Paris, France, Tel : + 33 1 53 76 39 34
