2020 US Presidential Campaign Update

As we approach the U.S. presidential election in November 2020, we are providing regular updates and developments from the campaign trail.

Candidates for the Democratic party nomination for president are continuing their campaigns and will take part in their fourth national debate—on October 15—in Westerville, Ohio, where all 12 qualifying candidates will appear together on stage on a single night.

Participating candidates met the Democratic party's threshold of registering two percent in four polls and 130,000 online donations. The November debate will see an increased qualification threshold of 3 percent in four polls, and at least 165,000 donors.

On the Republican side, President Trump, who was elected in 2016, is seeking re-election to a second term. The Democratic and Republican parties' political conventions will take place in July and August 2020, respectively, during which their presidential nominees will be officially elected.

The winner of the 2020 presidential election is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 20, 2021.

The next round of Democratic party debates are set for:

  • 4th debate: Westerville, Ohio — October 15 (CNN/New York Times)
  • 5th debate: Location and date to be determined — November
  • 6th debate: Location and date to be determined — December
